Theodore Haviland Limoges France China

This elegant 81 piece set of high quality porcelain China was first introduced by Theodore Haviland in Limoges France in 1903 according to the listing on the Haviland Backmarks List found on the website of the Haviland Collectors International Foundation. The backmark also states that "patent applied for". It is durable, yet lightweight, perfect for everyday use or special events.

The pattern's exquisite design features groups of pink and white roses and green leaves around the edges of the pieces trailing into the center of the white china. A couple of small pink and white roses and green leaves are found in a small group in the center. Surrounding this pattern is a raised white embossed scalloped design around the rim. Each piece has a slightly different floral arrangement. This set's pattern has been identified by Replacements Ltd as Schleiger 137C. It was discovered in 1950 by Arlene Schleiger, a collector of vintage china, that Theodore Haviland designed hundreds of patterns and did not give them a name. She devised a method of numbering the patterns she discovered in antique shops. She published six books over the years listing the patterns with illustrations provided by her son.

Her son and his wife have continued the updating of the lists since his mother passed. Haviland's patterns have come to be recognized by these numbers and that's what Replacements Ltd uses in their China identification tool. Please check my pictures carefully to be sure you are getting what you want, as there are many different but very similar designs. Included in this collection are.
