2 rare dinner plates once used at one of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, which was founded in 1865. Although not dated, these are institutional ironstone plates similar to those used at railroads, restaurants and hotels during the later part of the 18th century. This agency served veterans who served in the U.
Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American War and WWI, and morphed into the Veterans Administration in 1930. Condition is excellent with no cracks, chips, crazing, or stains. A few manufacturing bumps probably from specs of sand during the glazing process which can be seen in photo.
Also there are light knife marks as would be expected.
